Mechanical Engineer - Design and Development

to work as an engineer for one of the leading seal
companies who is engaged in the design and manufacture of mechanical shaft seals
used in the aerospace, nuclear, chemical, petrochemical, and marine industries.
Most recent applications include the Joint Strike Fighter, Boeing 787, and
a patented hydrogen gas seal used in electric power generation. Our seals
are not o-rings or gaskets, but sophisticated mechanical designs up to 41” in diameter,
costing as much as $100,000 and having up to 40 different components per assembly.
Stein Seal is continually engaged in the development of new seal technology
and has the largest test facility of any seal company in the world.
Job Description: Mechanical Engineer - Design and Development
Job
Function:
Use your experience and all facets of your education designing
complex metal and carbon graphite mechanical seal systems for rotating equipment. Work as
a member of the seal design team on new product development and improvement of
existing product features from concept through product launch. You will be able to put to use your
fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and materials background as well as other mechanical
engineering principles.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Apply engineering principles on design calculations, material selection, and performance analysis

Provide technical consultation for the seal design and testing teams.

Throughout the product development process, conduct design reviews and optimize design effectiveness
and efficiency.

Determine seal designs for specific customer applications, build prototypes, test at our lab,
and evaluate results.

Work closely with designer draftspersons and generate detail drawings and bill of materials.
Requirements:
1. BSME with minimum five years combined experience in design and product development.
2. Experience in design, development, and testing of :
Mechanical seals or
Other product involving the application of analytical skills and
knowledge of one or more of the following: fluid dynamics; thermodynamics; heat
transfer; stress
analysis
OR
BSME with university research or project work experience in design and development involving
#2 above
Experience or background in the following areas would be helpful:

Strong engineering application and analytical skills.

Strong mechanical aptitude and manufacturing skills.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) knowledge.

Familiarity with API-682, API-610, and ASMEB73.1 specs along with hydrodynamic concepts.

Strong communication skills.
